Choose and verify

Size the engine from the driven machine, not from a headline rating

01

Start from the driven machine

Give the absorbed power at its working speed and the heaviest condition it sees, not its nameplate rating.

02

Fix the governed speed

Every model is rated at both 3000 and 3600 rpm; 50 Hz and 60 Hz equipment do not use the same column.

03

Confirm the take-off

Crankshaft take-off turns at engine speed; camshaft take-off turns at half engine speed.

Buyer questions

Questions before you shortlist diesel engines

Ask Miya
01Which engine size covers my machine?

Size from the absorbed power of the driven machine at its working speed and leave headroom for its heaviest condition. The catalogue range runs from 3.6 kW rated at 3000 rpm on the smallest single cylinder to 18 kW on the largest V-twin, so most drivelines fall inside it. Send the machine and its duty and we confirm the column.

02Why does every model show two rated outputs?

The catalogue rates each engine at 3000 rpm and at 3600 rpm. 3000 rpm suits 50 Hz equipment and gives longer running per tank; 3600 rpm suits 60 Hz equipment and yields more output. State the speed you will run and the quotation fixes one column.

03When is a V-twin the better choice than a single cylinder?

Above roughly 12 kW rated. The single-cylinder models stop at 12 kW rated at 3000 rpm, while the V-twin models start at 13.8 kW and run to 18 kW at 912 to 1247 cc. Below that a single cylinder is lighter, simpler and cheaper to maintain.
